Qualcomm has unveiled the Snapdragon C, a new processor built on a 6nm manufacturing process with a 1+3+4 core configuration and integrated LPDDR5 memory support. The standout feature is its dedicated on-device AI engine, purpose-built for running LLM inference on mobile and edge devices without cloud connectivity. The efficient core architecture and advanced process node enable significant power savings compared to previous generations.

For the local LLM community, Snapdragon C represents a critical development in making edge inference accessible on constrained devices. Mobile developers and practitioners working on edge deployment can now leverage hardware-accelerated inference, reducing model quantisation requirements and enabling faster response times. The dedicated AI engine means models can run efficiently even when the CPU is handling other tasks.

This chip's adoption in consumer devices—particularly Samsung Galaxy Book6 Edge and other OEM products—will expand the addressable market for quantised LLMs optimised for ARM architectures. Frameworks targeting mobile and edge deployment, such as those using ONNX Runtime or TensorFlow Lite, will benefit from Snapdragon C's specialised AI capabilities, making on-device local LLMs more practical for mainstream applications.
