Liquid AI Releases LFM2.5 Q4_0 Checkpoints from Quantization-Aware Distillation
1 min readLiquid AI has released quantization-aware distillation (QAD) checkpoints for LFM2.5 in Q4_0 GGUF format, addressing a key challenge in local LLM deployment: maintaining model quality while aggressively reducing size and compute requirements. Quantization-aware distillation trains the model to be quantized from the ground up, rather than quantizing a full-precision model, resulting in better quality-to-size tradeoffs. The Q4_0 format makes these models compatible with llama.cpp and other GGUF-based inference engines.
This is particularly significant for edge and local deployments where model size directly correlates with memory requirements and inference latency. LFM2.5 QAD checkpoints enable practitioners to run capable models on consumer hardware with minimal quality degradation, making this a breakthrough for practical local LLM applications where both performance and model capability are non-negotiable.
